"From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place takes pride in every detail. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between cozy and elegant — warm lighting, soft music, and a calm buzz of conversation that makes you feel comfortable right away. The décor is simple but thoughtful, with wooden accents and subtle touches that make the space feel inviting rather than overdone. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff greeted me with genuine smiles and immediately made me feel welcome. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the food. They didn’t just take our order — they explained the dishes, offered helpful suggestions, and checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without hovering. That kind of attentiveness can really elevate an experience, and it did here. The food itself was outstanding. Every dish looked beautiful, smelled incredible, and tasted even better. The appetizer — a roasted vegetable and burrata plate — was fresh, colorful, and perfectly seasoned. For the main course, I had the grilled salmon with a citrus glaze and roasted potatoes. The fish was cooked flawlessly — crisp on the outside, tender and moist on the inside — and the sauce added just the right brightness. My friend ordered the braised short ribs, which were melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with flavor."
"The food is delicious and flavorful!!! This the place where you can get authentic Chinese food!! Highly recommend!!!! The owner is really nice!!! I recommend you get : Lobster Sticky Rice Fried Pumpkin Sticks with Salted Egg Yolk Salt and Pepper Silver Anchovy Salted Fish, Diced Chicken and Eggplant Casserole (with white rice)"
"Food is delicious and fresh! Nice size portions and the duck was perfect. 100% recommended it’s nice not having to go over the bridge to get fresh duck. The staff is super sweet and friendly as well."
"Hands down one of the best and most reasonably priced Chinese restaurant in all of Staten Island. Their lunch menu is undeniably the best bang with your buck, with a complimentary heartwarming abalone soup! The portion and quality of their lunch menu items is top-notch, and you will for sure be full and satisfied! For their lunch special, get their salt and pepper pork chop, for it was perfectly crispy and extremely tender; by far one of the best I ever had. For dinner, I cannot recommend their beef short ribs enough, as well as their lobster stir fried vermicelli; the beef short ribs were so tender and juicy, meanwhile their lobster stir fried vermicelli had such strong wok aroma, or as we call it in Cantonese, wok hay. Overall, we have extremely high hopes for Joyful and cannot wait to come back for more delicious meals! Give them a shot and I promise you won't regret it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:"
"The place was packed on a Friday evening as expected. If you like decent Cantonese dishes and don't mind the noise you will love this place . A man who had too many beers sitting about 20 feet from me was screaming from the bottom of his lung all evening while most of the remaining customers were almost as loud while talking and drinking beers .I understand this is a very Toishan thing as I am one myself , but this is LOUD NOISE , the loudest I have heard anywhere .Well there was nothing I could do and wanted to do , it is what it is .So let me also mention their portions are big and therefore = good value , I hope you would enjoy this place as well !!"
"They just opened today so it is a bit chaotic but overall the food is pretty good, on par with what you would get in Brooklyn, Flushing, and Manhattan chinatowns. Their Fried Dough “you tiao” is one of the best I’ve had outside of Taiwan though. I hope they can continue to improve their food and service and not go downhill as many new places tend to do. My two complaints were: My rice rolls did not come with any sauce. Thankfully I can make sauce myself at home. The lady who took our order said 10-15 minutes so we paid first, I took my mom home before returning, 20 min or so endeavor and when I got back, I still had to wait and they forgot I paid already. (They need a system or stamp to show order is paid). Edit: day 2, I called ahead for order, was told 10-15 minutes and now it has been 45 minutes…still no food. I only ordered 3 rice rolls, 2 fried dough sticks, 1lb roast park, and congee…. I witnessed a guy take 15 minutes to get the bill, a whole table sat and waited 10 minutes before walking out without ordering due to the wait. This is not good… despite how good the food is, this is abysmal service. 2nd update. 70 minutes later I have no food. They never even made it. This is stupid. I sat in their store waiting for 60+ minutes watching other foods being made. I could’ve gone to brooklyn and back, finished eating, done my dishes in all this time. I took a seat as instructed and apparently the same guy who told me to sit and wait… ended up voiding my order sometime during the 70 minutes of waiting in their store. Why? They thought I left. I was sitting in front of them the whole time. Never moved. Had even checked 30 minutes in and they said almost done. when I finally left, the guy who waited 15 minutes to get his bill… his table was never cleaned by the time I left… so it was left dirty for over 45 minutes. 2025 update: It may be under new ownership now because all the staff are different, seems like a really seasoned restaurant crew who are competent, friendly, and very efficient. The food is also super delicious, on par with brooklyn chinatowns. True Cantonese flavors and styles."
"This newly opened Cantonese-style restaurant offers great-tasting food overall. However, the space is a bit limited, and the wait time can be a little longer due to the small kitchen. Despite that, it’s still worth a visit."
